How has the economy affected your Beauty buying?

Times are tough, money is tight and all of the news is scary.  Is it affecting (or is it effecting?) your beauty purchases?  Are you cutting back?  Switching to less expensive brands?  Buying less?

We are feeling the pinch, plus with a new baby coming, it is scary.  Some ways I am cutting back:

  • Switching to less expensive products - I will switch to less expensive products when I feel they will do the job.  I have gone back to my Cover Girl Lash Blast (in blue) that does a good job and it is often on sale at a great price.
  • Stopped getting my nails done - eeek!  This one is hard, but I am trying to be brave about it.  I am also trying to find non-smelly nailpolish so I can do my own manicures, but I haven't looked that hard.
  • Not buying every new product - this one is hard, because I love to try things and then write reviews, but I can't afford to put out money on a drugstore foundation I know I probably won't love and will regret buying.
  • Buying less, but still buying my fave items - I just ordered some stuff from Sephora, but I was very restrained and I ordered things I was pretty sure I was going to love.  I ordered some UD cream shadows, but not the ones with glitter.  I am loving Dior shadows and I know they work well with my now-aging eyes, so I don't mind splurging on them.  All in all I am mindeful or what I buy and want to make sure I really LOVE it.
  • Creating some new looks with products I already own.

I haven't cut back 100%, but maybe 50%.  Enough to notice a difference in my wallet, and in my lack of reviews :(

What are you doing?  How is this "new" ecomony impacting your beauty spending?

I've been only trying to buy makeup and such with cash only. No cedit cards or debit cards. (Well, except for online purchases.) I have been trying to save about $20 a week in an envelope and not touching it, only to be used for cosmetics. 20 bucks might seem like a lot to save for makeup, but that is a big step from what I have been doing.

I've been doing the envelope thing since I was 16 and had to save money for car insurance and gas. My mom taught me that. She has been doing it forever.
