<p>In the next installment of beauty industry education, we're talking about the term Natural. Does natural mean better? What does natural mean? Should you only buy things labeled natural? </p><p>Natural does not always mean better. There are many natural things in the world that you don't want to smear all over your face - poison ivy, poison oak, cyanide, poo (!). I am PRETTY sure you don't like any of those things, and if you do, please leave this site immediately! Many,many things are natural, but not good for us or our skin. </p><p>Legally, what does the term "natural" mean? Absolutely nothing! It is not a legally defined word, so a claim of "natural" on a product label could be all a marketing strategy. The FDA does not regulate the term "natural" so it may not be any better for you than the next product. </p><p>If you are interested in natural products, it is really important to read the labels. Look for artificial colors, fragrances, preservatives (like parabens, which we will be discussing in an upcoming post) - none of those things are natural. Learn what the scientific names are for natural ingredients by using a <a href="http://www.cosmeticscop.com/cosmetic-ingredient-dictionary.aspx" target="_blank">cosmetic dictionary</a>.</p><p>No I am not putting all natural products down, there are many great lines at the health food store and they are gaining in popularity.
