Coastal Scents Mineral Foundation Review and Contest!

Shhhhhhhhh.  I have a secret.  I don't like mineral foundation.  I know, I know, it is the hottest thing around, but it just does not work on my skin.  I have tried it over and over again for years (Seriously, the first Bare Escentuals kit I bought came with a VHS tape!) and I just don't like it.  There I have said it.  My name is Critty and I don't like mineral foundation.

So I will do a basic review of the Coastal Scents primer, concealer, foundation and veil and then open up the comment section and have a little contest and I will send the four products to you (provided you are in the US or Canada) and you can do your own review on your own Pretty by Critty Blog for everyone to read.  I think that's fair ...

Diva Defense Primer - This oil-free powder primer is suppose to minimize pore size and fine lines but I found it made my pores look larger.  My pores are the size of the moon anyway, so this did not help them out.  I also found it dried out my skin too much, and I was flaky by the end of the day.

Concealer A - Multi-Purpose - This concealer was waaaaaaay too dark for my skin.  I think Coastal Scents should put the light concealer in their kits when selling a light foundation color.

Honey Matte Foundation in Honey Fair 1.2 - The foundation was ok, it didn't cover everything I needed it too, even with multiple coats, but I do have rosacea.  I tried it with the Diva Defense Primer underneath as well as the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer and neither one gave thrilling results.  There is no bisumth, so my skin didn't itch, but it felt very dry, even slightly uncomfortable which is odd because I have combination skin.

Veil Effect Mineral Powder - I had the highest hopes for this one, thinking I could use i as a setting powder for my regular liquid foundation (MAC Studio Fix Fluid), but it did not cover as well as my Clinique Perfectly Real powder foundation.  I feel the Clinique powder blends in better with my skin and achieves a more natural finish.

So that is my feeling about Coastal Scents Mineral Foundation, but again, do not take my word for it.  I am completely biased and have never liked mineral foundation.  I do love mineral blush and eyeshadow, so expect my reviews of CS mineral blush, bronzers and shadows later this week.

So I would love to give these 4 products to a member who loves mineral foundation and wants to do their own review on their own free Pretty by Critty Blog (if you are a member you already have one, so you could be posting your thoughts already!).  If you are in the US or Canada and are a Honey Fair 1.2-ish color, write a comment below telling me why YOU should be the one who gets the CS products and I'll pick the winner next Monday, April 21, 2008.  You need to be a member to post comments, so make sure you sign up and activate your FREE account to participate in this fun contest.  Good luck!

I love me some mineral make up! It's so light, doesn't have that heavy, sticky feeling of other foundations! I am entering this contest and sticking a virtual piece of gum to my entry..so it screams out: pick me, pick me!

I absoutely adore mineral makeup. It feels so light, but it still packs a punch with coverage. It makes my entire face less red and it deffinately is the only type of foundation I'll ever use. Why do I think I should win this contest? Because I've tried quite a few different mineral makeup brands and I think I'd be a good person to be able to compare them to one another. :)

Hi, I'm a new member who signed up about five minutes ago when I found something you wrote on Yahoo Answers that linked to this site. I'm only sixteen but already well on my way to being a total make-up junkie. Unfortunately, I'm limited by my mother who does not approve of my makeupholism and my student budget. I've never tried mineral make-up in my life but would love the opportunity. I'll be sure to do a review if you pick me. So yeah, thanks for the cool site. And PICK ME. :)
